As a young girl, I remember going to the Aiea Bowling Alley with friends and on school outings. What I remember (besides the bowling, of course) was the little drive-in restaurant that they had in the front. Whenever I go to the Windward side of Oahu, I always make it a point to stop by Boots & Kimo’s Homestyle Kitchen. This Kailua restaurant has been a popular staple for breakfast for both locals and tourists. Located on Kapiolani Boulevard on the 2nd floor of the Honolulu Design Center is the Amuse Wine Bar. For those not familiar with Amuse, it is a wine bar that features ATM-like self-serve wine stations. The first of its kind on Oahu, it also features a tapas style (small plates) menu and live entertainment on Wednesday and Friday evenings. Parking is free in the Honolulu Design Center lot. If you’re from Leeward Oahu or have ever shopped at Pearlridge, you’ve probably seen or even dined at Bravo. It’s conveniently located on the corner of Kaonohi Street and Kamehameha Highway, under Anna Miller’s, and has free parking. Bravo is best known for their consistently delicious Italian food, friendly atmosphere, and reasonable prices. One of town’s underground hot spots is a petite restaurant in Kaimuki simply called Town. Located on Waialae Avenue, you miss it if you blink your eyes. For such a tiny eatery, it has earned national recognition by placing in MSN’s “10 Hot Restaurants Near You”. It has also earned local recognition by receiving Honolulu Magazine’s 2006 Hale Aina Award for ‘Best New Restaurant’, as well as a 2007 Hale Aina Award for ‘Best Bistro/New American Cuisine’.
