Located on Kapiolani Boulevard on the 2nd floor of the Honolulu Design Center is the Amuse Wine Bar. For those not familiar with Amuse, it is a wine bar that features ATM-like self-serve wine stations. The first of its kind on Oahu, it also features a tapas style (small plates) menu and live entertainment on Wednesday and Friday evenings. Parking is free in the Honolulu Design Center lot. Hidden within an old building just of Waialae Avenue, marked with nothing more than a simple white sign, is a surprising find. The 12th Avenue Grill doesn’t look like much from the outside, but a quick peek into the window reveals a finely decorated and lively little restaurant with a reputation of serving excellent food. One of town’s underground hot spots is a petite restaurant in Kaimuki simply called Town. Located on Waialae Avenue, you miss it if you blink your eyes. For such a tiny eatery, it has earned national recognition by placing in MSN’s “10 Hot Restaurants Near You”. It has also earned local recognition by receiving Honolulu Magazine’s 2006 Hale Aina Award for ‘Best New Restaurant’, as well as a 2007 Hale Aina Award for ‘Best Bistro/New American Cuisine’.
